Financial support (income support) can be authorized for people living and staying in the municipality and who cannot provide for their families' needs in any other way. Income support is individually reviewed with strict demands that you've done all you can to provide for you and your family's needs.
The aim is always for income support to be temporary and that you can provide for yourself as soon as possible. The support is meant as a complement when other general forms of support (such as sick pay, unemployment insurance, housing benefit, child benefit and maintenance allowance) are not enough.
Utbildning- och arbetslivsförvaltningen (the education and labour department) is responsible for reviewing the right to income support and they also decide on current cases and allowances.
If you're 65 or older and don't have a pension or it's so low that you can't support yourself with it you should contact Pensionsmyndigheten (Swedish Pensions Agency) on: 0771‑776 776 and apply for a supplementary pension.
